Dr. Yasir Arafat is one of the most distinguished faculty members of the University of Chitral. He has obtained his PhD degree in Economics from the University of Peshawar in the year 2019. His PhD research focuses on the Role of Independent Power Producers in the Gross Domestic Product and Demand for Energy in Pakistan (1990 – 2015).

Born in Chitral, KP, Dr. Arafat attended and graduated from University of Peshawar, and obtained his BS in Economics and MS degrees from one of the prestigious and top ranked University of Pakistan i.e. National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Islamabad. After attaining his higher education, he joined University of Peshawar as a Lecturer on temporary basis from 2013 to 2014. He also served as a lecturer/ coordinator at Sarhad University of Science and Information technology (SUIT), Peshawar from 2014 to 2017. During his stay in SUIT, Dr. Arafat was member of different Statutory Bodies and Editor of Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (JOSSH). He has introduced BS, M.Phil and PhD program in Economics at SUIT and also served faculty coordinator in the faculty of Management Sciences.

Currently Dr. Arafat is working in the University of Chitral as a Lecturer in Economics along with his additional responsibility of Head of department of Economics and Deputy Director, Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC). He has published different research papers on various themes of Economics in HEC recognized journals. His research interests lie in the area of Energy Economics, Environmental Economics, Development Economics, Economics of Education, Health Economics and Applied Econometrics.
